Children and young people

Tell us what YOUR vision for AI in Scotland is!

Scotland's future lies with children and young people and we believe it is fundamental to include their voices in creating a better awareness of what AI is and shaping AI's future in Scotland.

We have developed some fun activity learning packs on AI for children and young people. These packs are a perfect resource for all educators (teachers, youth workers, community learning colleagues, parents, carers) and students to learn about the basics of AI and AI in Scotland.

We’ve also produced a separate educator's guide on using these activity packs for different age groups.

Please let us know how they went by uploading any completed worksheets or photos of drawings produced from children and young people in the upload section here:

Elements of AI

The Elements of AI is a series of free online courses created by Reaktor and the University of Helsinki. They want to encourage as broad a group of people as possible to learn what AI is, what can (and can’t) be done with AI, and how to start creating AI methods. The courses combine theory with practical exercises and can be completed at your own pace.

Ethics of AI

The Ethics of AI is a free online course created by the University of Helsinki. The course is for anyone who is interested in the ethical aspects of AI – we want to encourage people to learn what AI ethics means, what can and can’t be done to develop AI in an ethically sustainable way, and how to start thinking about AI from an ethical point of view.

Feedback so far

“So informative - it pulls back the curtain (Wizard of Oz style) in relation to AI. Great sense of balance as the course makes you aware and reflect on 'the good' and 'the bad', and everything in between. I've been talking about the content of this course to my partner and also flagged it at my work, encouraging people to enroll and complete.”

“I was familiar already with a lot of the themes covered, but got value out of reflecting on them once again, particularly with the current pace of AI development.”

“Fascinating subject which will be with us in all walks of life. If we learn to live with it, but question whether everything is true without bias. Keep a critical way of thinking.”
